Raise a Floppa - The Loop
Marriage is a feature in Stardew Valley. There are six eligible bachelors and six eligible bachelorettes. Same-sex marriage is available.
Marriage is only available after The Player has reached 10 hearts with a certain marriageable villager. For marriageable villagers, the player must first give them a bouquet (bought from Pierre's store) after reaching 8 hearts with them in order to unlock the last 2 hearts. After reaching 10 hearts, the player must purchase a Mermaid Pendant from the Old Mariner for 5,000g and give it to the desired partner. The wedding will commence 3 days after proposal, unless there is an event already planned on the wedding day, in which the wedding will be pushed back one day.
A spouse will move to the player's Farm after the wedding. They will have new, unique dialogue and occasionally help out around the farm.
The gift limit of 2 gifts per week will be eliminated, however, the one gift per day rule will still apply. They will have 4 new heart slots. If the player reaches 13 hearts with their spouse, there is a chance for them to receive a Stardrop from their spouse as a token of love.
Spouses can help with farm chores such as:
- Watering crops
- Feeding livestock
- Making breakfast and dinner
- Repairing fences
However, spouses can become unhappy if not treated well, which will result in undesirable actions, such as laying in bed all day and saying irritating things. If your spouse is happy, they may adopt or give birth to a child.
Your spouse may also become irritable whilst walking through a house that has too many decorations, indicating that their walking pattern is being blocked.
Spousal happiness and behavior are presently erratic. There were probably attempts to make each different based on personalities and may still have yet to be finalized. All the player can do presently is talk to them until you reach a kiss/embrace motion each day. You may be able to talk to them more later in the day but the embrace/kiss gesture only generates one heart a day, implying the player has made their spouse happy.
Children
If the farmhouse is upgraded to the nursery addition, there is a chance for a spouse to ask the player for children.
- For opposite-sex couples, if the player agrees, a child will be born 14 days later.
- Same-sex couples adopt. If the player agrees, a baby will arrive in the middle of the night 14 days later..
- Refusing to have children does not affect friendship points.
- A spouse will eventually ask the player again even if they deny having children the first time.
- Children can be turned into doves by the Dark Shrine of Selfishness in exchange for a prismatic shard.
- Upon turning children into a doves, an Ancient Doll will attack the player inside the Witch's Hut.
Divorce
After marriage, divorce becomes available at Lewis's House for 50,000g. This action may be canceled before 10 PM (when Lewis locks his door). After divorce, a spouse's title will switch from "(husband/wife) to (ex-husband/-wife). They will refuse to talk with the player and it is impossible to gain friendship points with them again, unless their memory is erased using the Dark Shrine of Memory in the Witch's Hut. Children will stay with the player at the farmhouse.
Jealousy
Spouses may become jealous and mistrustful if the player gives another marriage candidate of the same sex a gift. This event will not trigger unless the marriage candidate in question was given a bouquet at any point in time. This event does not affect friendship points.
